A national strike by staff of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord is expected to impact train services from 9:00 PM on Thursday, 28 May to 9:00 PM on Friday, 29 May 2026. During this time, trains may be subject to delays, changes or cancellations.
- Guaranteed long-haul train services (EuroCity, InterCity, InterCity Notte and Frecce) can be found here.
- Regional trains (Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper) are guaranteed only during weekday peak hours:
- Morning: 06:00 am - 09:00 am
- Evening: 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm
Engineering Works on Messina–Palermo: 22 May – 21 June 2026
Due to scheduled engineering works, train services on selected Trenitalia routes will be subject to timetable changes, route limitations, cancellations, and replacement bus services. The following Intercity and Intercity Night services will be affected on selected dates between 22 May and 21 June 2026:
- IC 723 Rome Termini – Palermo Centrale: cancelled between Messina Centrale and Palermo Centrale on 22, 23 May and 5, 6, 20 June. Replacement bus service planned.
- IC 729 Messina Centrale – Palermo Centrale: cancelled and replaced by a bus on 22, 23 May and 5, 6, 20 June.
- ICN 1955/1957 Rome Termini – Syracuse/Palermo Centrale: Messina Centrale – Palermo section cancelled on 22, 23 May and 5, 6, 20 June. Replacement bus service planned.
- ICN 1959/1961 Rome Termini – Syracuse/Palermo Centrale: Messina Centrale – Palermo Centrale section cancelled on 22, 23 May and 5, 6, 20 June, with replacement buses operating on 23, 24 May and 6, 7, 21 June.
- IC 736 Palermo Centrale – Messina Centrale: cancelled and replaced by a bus on 23, 24 May and 6, 7, 21 June.
- IC 730 Palermo Centrale – Messina Centrale: cancelled and replaced by a bus on 23, 24 May and 6, 7, 21 June.
- ICN 1964 Palermo Centrale – Messina Centrale: cancelled and replaced by a bus on 23, 24 May and 6, 7, 21 June.
- ICN 1954 Palermo Centrale – Messina Centrale: cancelled and replaced by a bus on 23, 24 May and 6, 7, 21 June.
- Check before you travel: Replacement bus services may be in place on some routes. Please check at the station for the latest updates, as bus timetables may vary depending on traffic conditions.
- Plan ahead: Kindly allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes or modes of transport.

Please first check at the station to see if a replacement bus is running for your journey. If no alternative service is available and your train is cancelled, please complete the relevant online form with Trenitalia to request a refund.

You can search for your train on this page of the Trenitalia website by entering your train number or departure station. Any cancelled or disrupted services will be indicated in the results. We recommend that you check back regularly before you travel.
Please be aware that if your train is still running, it might be busier than usual because of the reduced service.
